The nature of the failure is not obvious to me, but the first thing I would suspect is the change in the account used to run Tomcat. That probably requires changing the ownership or permissions on nearly all of the files created when Tomcat was installed.
I prefer to let the installed instance(s) of DSpace be owned by the account used to run Tomcat, instead of trying to fix up Tomcat to be run by an account "dspace" that isn't really needed. -- Mark H.
