Dear DSpace Community, Our 2010 DuraSpace sponsorship program is off to a really good start! As of today, we have a total of $174,000 in financial support committed by our community members (the list of contributors so far can be seen below). In addition to supplying the funds to cover about 25% of our operating costs on an on-going basis, the Sponsorship Program is designed to provide us with a large number of active partners in our mission to preserve the world's intellectual, cultural and scientific information by providing technologies and services that help to ensure that digital content is accessible over the long term.
In order for us to maintain our 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit organization, DuraSpace must be able to demonstrate it receives financial support from a broad number of supporters, and is not funded solely by a few organizations. The sponsorship funds help support the DSpace and Fedora community programs and technical leadership. Launching a new sponsorship program is these economic times is particularly challenging, but is imperative to our success as a sustainable independent organization We have passed the halfway point towards our first-year goal of $300,000 in two months. Please keep those card and letters (and emails) coming! We really appreciate your support. If you would like to learn more about the sponsorship program you can view the materials we have sent out to the community at http://duraspace.org/sponsorship.php. If you have questions, please feel free to email me.
