It depends upon what you want tasks you want to perform on the object. Some features such as batch edit (via CSV) allow this, and other tools (e.g. curation tools) can be run on a collection or community. If you could specify more detail about what sort of tasks you were thinking of, we'll be able to say if this is possible.
