Hello,

I am hoping to tap into the collective wisdom of the listserv:

I was hired a few months ago as a repository manager to start up DSpace as a
pilot project. I am now preparing a budget request to, hopefully, move out of
the pilot stage to a more permanent set-up. My IT department was not heavily
involved with the initial planning for this project, so they want to know what
to expect in terms of supporting DSpace on an on-going basis. In the next
year, the repository will grow to about 5,000 items, most of the bitstreams are
PDFs, and the only customizations we have done have been to the browse and
Discovery configurations.

I have a few questions about how to budget for the IT side-of-things:

-What percentage of a sys-admin FTE's time would be required to do an annual
upgrade to the latest version of DSpace?
-As far as hardware, what are people's thoughts about going with a virtual vs.
stand alone server setup?
-Any advice on how to budget for unexpected issues?

Thanks in advance,
David
