I appreciate the help I've gotten from the list and have a follow-up question: how much hard drive space should we allocate to the database itself (as opposed to the asset store?) The End User FAQ on the wiki points out that this will vary from installation to installation, but it doesn't give any guidelines for how to estimate what a particular installation will need.
We'll be using the standard metadata schema. We expect to take in about 1,500 objects during the initial ingest period and to grow fairly slowly (perhaps 30 items a month) after that. Our IT team has more experienced Windows administrators than it does Unix ones, so they would prefer to deploy DSpace on a Windows box, but before they do we wanted to check to see whether any institutions have had performance or maintenance issues running DSpace under Windows. I searched the list archives and didn't see any complaints, but if anyone on the list has experienced major issues running DSpace on Windows rather than Linux/Unix I would appreciate hearing about it.
