Hi all,

We are still hunting more innovative DSpace related contributions for the DSUG meeting at OR 2012 as well as the main stream.

See the DSUG call for contributions here with the main gist below:
http://or2012.ed.ac.uk/call-for-proposals/call-for-contributions-dspace-user-group-meeting-at-open-repositories-2012/

In the spirit of the Repository Fringe tradition at Edinburgh, this year we are especially open to a range of interactive formats for contributions, such as panels, tutorials, facilitated round table discussions, stories, or presentations of varying length. Please indicate such intentions in your proposal.

The following themes may assist but should not limit your imagination:

 * Interesting/novel uses of DSpace
 * Impact of repositories on a local or global community; supporting
   open scholarship in different ways
 * Enhancing the user experience: custom themes, unique features, data
visualisation tools, PDF readers, image galleries, video streaming...
 * Easing the deposit process: batch ingest, metadata mining or
   automated publishers' lookup...
 * Integration with other software: Using DSpace with CRIS systems,
iTunesU, Content Management Systems, reference management
   applications, SWORD, REST API ...
 * Usage statistics: gearing up DSpace for the 'impact agenda', using
Google Analytics with DSpace, using alt-metrics, displaying download
statistics for users and communities in engaging ways
 * Curation tools and preservation policy issues: using the new DSpace
native tools in workflows; towards the Trusted Repository; Duracloud
   implementation
 * Use of faceted search and other discovery enhancements
 * Applying metadata standards within DSpace; Linked Open Data
 * Customising DSpace; XML User Interface modifications
 * Working in an Open Source community: use of Duraspace collaboration
   tools

The call for papers for Open Repositories 2012 has been extended one last
time to midnight on* *Thursday March 8th*. This is in response to demand
from
those who didn't receive the announcement about the opening of the
submissions
system in a timely fashion. You need to submit a 2 to 4 page summary of your
proposal for either the main conference track or the Eprints, DSpace and
Fedora
user group tracks via our online conference system Conftool, accessible from
the conference website:

http://or2012.blogs.edina.ac.**uk/submissions/<http://or2012.blogs.edina.ac.uk/submissions/>

Whether you want to talk about something you have done, that someone
else has done, that you want to do or that you wish someone else would do,
OR2012 is the place to say it if it's at all connected with repositories
of any type - for publications, for data, for learning materials, for social
media, for digital content of any type.

This is definitely the final extension to the submission deadline. Delay
no longer!

More information on the extension and links to more information on OR2012
is here:

Hi,

Currently, no. The Mirage theme is only available for XMLUI. The older
JSPUI does not support themes.

There is a prototype WebMVC UI project which also allows themes (such as
Mirage). But it is still in early development stages, and as far as I'm
aware is not used in production anywhere.

The March KnowledgeBase drawing is on!

Contribute to the DuraSpace KnowledgeBase get a chance at a $100 Amazon gift card! Yep, that's right, the drawing has increased this month to $100!

Don't feel like an expert? You can still contribute content! There are many previously written resources (the DSpace Course or the Fedora Tutorials) that you can adapt/re-use (with proper attribution) and put into the KnowledgeBase format.

To be eligible for the March drawing:
1) Select any topic from the KnowledgeBase outline (DSpace: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSpaceKB/DSpace+KnowledgeBase or Fedora: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/FedoraKB/Fedora+KnowledgeBase). 2) Either write one outline topic (or update existing materials from the DSpace Course or the Fedora Tutorials) or record a brief screencast which walks through a topic/concept.
3) Post your content to the KnowledgeBase by March 31, 2012.

See below for sample content, links to previously written resources and more details or feel free to email me with any questions.

Good luck!

Dear DSpace and Fedora User Communities,

Do you have experience using DSpace or Fedora? Could you write a
description of the Fedora Digital Object Data Model? Could you record
a short screencast on how to maximize DSpace?s batch metadata editing
feature? If so, you could win a $50 Amazon gift card!

Beginning on February 1, DuraSpace will be holding a monthly drawing
to encourage content contributions to the new KnowledgeBase
 (https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/KB/Welcome+to+KnowledgeBase). The
KnowledgeBase is an initiative aimed at improving the training and
educational resources available to the DSpace and Fedora user
communities. Once it is populated with content, this wiki-based
resource will help new users get a repository up and running as well
as perform various basic administrative tasks using a variety of
delivery tools (text-based guides, images, diagrams, screencasts,
presentation slides, webinars, etc.). The usefulness of the
KnowledgeBase depends on the collaborative efforts of the DSpace and
Fedora user communities. For the next several months if you create
content you not only help the community but you could win a chance to
help yourself to something on your Amazon wish list!

 Drawing Details

Each month DuraSpace will put out the call for new content
contributions to the KnowledgeBase. Contributors can create any type
of content the wish -- text-based guides, images, diagrams,
screencasts, etc. to address any topic under the existing topic
 outline for either DSpace
 (https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSpaceKB/DSpace+KnowledgeBase) or
 Fedora
 (https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/FedoraKB/Fedora+KnowledgeBase).
All entries must be posted to the appropriate wiki page by
contributors by the last day of the month. All entries will be
validated to ensure submissions meet the minimum entry requirement
which is either, 1) a complete text guide for an existing outline
topic or for an additional supplemental topic, or 2) a complete
screencast for one outline topic/subtopic, approximately 5 minutes in
length. Contributors may use adapt/update previously published
 material (The DSpace Course
 http://cadair.aber.ac.uk/dspace/handle/2160/615, Fedora Tutorial

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/FEDORACREATE/Tutorial+1+-+Introduction+to+Fedora,
etc.), although appropriate attribution should be footnoted. A random
drawing will determine a winner of that month's $50 Amazon gift card,
which will be awarded within 7 days. Anyone outside of DuraSpace
employees/contract employees is eligible to participate. Individuals
may enter the contest more than once in the same month to increase
their chances of winning and may also win for multiple months. Take a
 Look

The KnowledgeBase was developed in consultation with the community
and was designed to allow for as much flexibility and community
contributions -- however large or small -- as possible. Content is
easy to contribute using the familiar DuraSpace wiki environment.
Simply edit or add pages the same way you do anywhere else on the
wiki. Any suggestions you may have for making the content more
useful, more relevant for the community is always welcomed. Either
use the "Comment" section at the bottom of each page or email Valorie
 Hollister at [email protected].
