Just to be more clear (or make things more confusing ;) )
DSpace-CRIS (will) includes statistics improvement for both reporting &
visualization.
A new release for the DSpace-CRIS module is expected in June:
http://cilea.github.io/dspace-cris/roadmap.html
As reporting functionalities the system include:
- email subscription service: the system send a single email including
information on all the resources (researchers, items, projects, etc.) that you
have subscribed. The report will include an excel file with total count of
view&download as view&download in the last day, week or monthly (as the
frequence of alert that you have chosen)
- rss feed of statistics view&download with total count and increasing for any
single object and it relationship (items for researcher, etc.)
hub.hku.hk/rp/stats/rss/daily?rp=rp00001
In the Hub repository there are similar functionalities also for external
metrics (Scopus,WOS,etc.) but these have been developed locally at HKU by Chun
You Lo (we can check with them if and how they want to contribute back these
functionalities to DSpace/DSpace-CRIS).
The very important things to note imho is that using the DSpace-CRIS modules
they are able to collect a lot of more information in a structured way that
make easy to produce report and further analysis.
Finally, to answer to the Hilton question yes DSpace-CRIS is actually only
available for JSPUI. It use recent up-to-date technologies (Spring MVC, Spring
WS, Hibernate, jsp2) "similar" to the tecnologies used by "legacy JSPUI"
components so it could be also considerated a test bed for future change to the
DSpace JSPUI.
At CINECA we will be happy to see some others involved in DSpace-CRIS to make
an integration with XMLUI possible. A first step could be allow navigation from
the XMLUI to the CRIS JSPUI stuff keeping authentication(SSO) beetwen the two
modules, of course some "duplication of effort " for keep layout similar in the
XMLUI and JSPUI pages will be required to the istitutions, as also some work on
"trasversal pages" as browsing and searching that will work on entities from
both "core dspace data model" and "CRIS data model".
Best,
Andrea

Thanks for the replies, it has been a real eye-opener to see what can be done.
Being a non-programmer I am helpless to implement this.
So for the "code poets" out there who may be listening, and who are altruistic,
please help ;-)
Cheers

Well, it’s not really either one.
Chunyue here made a perl script to gather data from our item & author profiles,
cumulates, and then posts in html.

Ok. We are committed to the XMLUI.
Do you know of any work to port it the XMLUI?
I suppose Andrea is the person who knows more about this.

Correct, all the interface changes are for JSPUI. The CRIS stuff has
its database tables and access layer "under" the UI layer, but the
interface changes you were asking about are pretty independent of
that.
