Hi there My institution is using Dspace version 4.3 for our institutional repository and we are currently exploring the built-in embargo feature. It is a restricted access repository in that some items are restricted to only our staff and students or staff only, such as dissertations and exam papers. Hence, these items have their metadata displayed publicly but the item bitstreams require an authorised login.
We also archive electronic academic papers in our repository. However some accepted manuscripts/publisher version of journal articles are under embargo due to publisher's self-archival policies. Currently we can only upload these papers after the embargo period is over (which can take years) as the built-in embargo feature is not working in accordance with our requirements. Current problems: When the built-in embargo feature is activated, the *embargoed end date is only visible in the admin interface (and not publicly)*, and the *link to the uploaded full text** is still visible* on the item record page. Anyone can then click on the link but they will see a login page asking for their username/password. To minimize the confusion we prepared an error message for non-admin users that explains that the paper is under embargo till a fixed period. However the *presence of an **authentication login page * and* lack of embargo end date *will create confusion for users. What we would like to see (i.e. our requirements): For files that under embargo, the metadata is publicly available and searchable but there will be *no hypertext link* to the uploaded file (*so* *there is no authentication login page)*, and the *date the paper is embargoed* *until will be displayed*. This *date will disappear* and the *links to open/download the files will appear *only after the embargoed date. Is there a solution to fix our current problems and fulfil our requirements? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Best regards Stephanie -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "DSpace Technical Support" group.
