I agree that wildcard for language would be desirable. It would not
even break the API of released DSpace versions. I haven't kept
up-to-date with the development of REST API for DSpace 7, so they may
already doing that or have taken a different approach entirely.

No, I don't run a cron job. I may have run a simple one-off SQL query
to standardize them, though. I actually do use metadata in multiple
languages.
