In the meantime we upgraded from 5.9 to 6.3 and then I had time to 
investigate the issue. Finally I had to remove the slash from the end of 
the configuration string `websvc.opensearch.uicontext = discover` so 
searching from the browser context results an URL path like 
`/discover?query=test+string` (and not `/discover/?query=test-string`).
