Update:
I tried Remove Authorities one more time using my PERSONAL Google account
instead of my work account, which I don't think I've ever had to do before,
and this time it worked.

Maybe this information will help someone else get past this issue. I'm not
thrilled about using my personal account and would like to know why the
work account did not allow authorities to be removed.
