Help! I'm strapped for cache! :-)

I'm working on adding a Cocoon control panel for the XMLUI admin interface,
probably won't be ready in 9 days (eek) but it is working enough that I'd like
to see if it's capable of clearing the Cocoon cache. Only problem? I can't seem
to generate any cache.

I can see our live DSpace has about 1.2GB in its cache, but our dev DSpace is
at 0 bytes, no matter what I click on... I'm looking for advice on tactics to
generate some cache. Thanks!

PS: here's where I'm looking for our cache: in the folder
/var/cache/tomcat5/work/Catalina/localhost/xmlui/cache-dir ... that's where
XMLUI's cocoon properties file told me the default cache-dir is located, and it
appears to be active in our live installation.
