As Bram mentioned, this is a known issue.  The recommended solution is to use 
Maven 2.2.x or ABOVE (you don't have to used 2.2.0 specifically). 
  This has been changed in the documentation at:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC/Installation#Installation-ApacheMaven2.0.82.2.0orlater%28Javabuildtool%29

It sounds like you are currently using Maven 2.0.x, which has known issues in 
building 1.7.0.
