Hallo Konstantin,

communites and collections are always visible. Furthermore items are
always searchable and listed in the configured browse indices.

a) resource policies for items and bitstreams
During ingest items and the associated bitstreams derive their resource
policies from the collection they are submitted to. The collection
attributes DEFAULT_ITEM_READ (render item default and full view) and
DEFAULT_BITSTREAM_READ (access bitstreams) determine the resource
policies of an item.

Note this is done during ingest. Changing these default settings will
not change the resource policies recursively. This can be done with the
wildcard policy tool.

b) item exposure in RSS, OAI, Subscriptions
If you do not want to expose restricted items via the above channels,
take a look at the configuration section
#### Restricted item visibilty settings ###

c) metadata exposure
In order to hide certain metadata from item (short and full) view and
oai, take a look at the configuration section
##### Hide Item Metadata Fields #####

It is recommended not to force everything in the dc schema, but use
different schemata if needed.

d) total restriction for certain bitstreams, based on type
The bitstream format registry allows you to restrict the submission via
UI and the display of certain bitstream formats. Formats flagged as
internal can not be submitted by non-admin users and are not visible in
the default item view only in the edit view.

Hope that helps

Claudia Jürgen
