Hi all, Has anyone run any benchmarks for OpenJDK JVM vs. Oracle JVM for a recent version of DSpace on Java 7?
Everything I've read online suggests that Oracle *for Java 7* is not significantly faster than OpenJDK. I'm inclined to prefer OpenJDK because: a) the JDK can be installed and upgraded from standard repos for most Linux distributions b) it is the reference implementation for Java SE 7 (https://blogs.oracle.com/henrik/entry/moving_to_openjdk_as_the), and c) it’s open source However, Oracle would probably be the better choice if it offers better performance. (I'm a Java amateur and don't think I would be able to construct a comprehensive benchmark suite for this comparison.) Is Oracle faster/more performative than OpenJDK (for DSpace on Java 7)? Or are suggestions to that effect just a holdover from the Java 6 situation, where Oracle was clearly superior to OpenJDK?
