/dev/mapper/* are device nodes created by the Linux kernel's "device mapper". This one appears to represent an LVM volume group. It probably does account for most of your storage, but it isn't *using* any of it; it should contain logical volumes, which in turn contain filesystems. To delete it might have results ranging from disruptive to disastrous, or might not work at all -- I've never tried. Do not manipulate DM nodes as if they were files. The Ubuntu documentation should explain how the OS uses DM and LVM to organize raw storage. -- Mark H.
