The ALPHA2 is just a name. Everything behind ALPHA2 is made to be production
ready. We have only introduced some new functions but that's it. However... we
have exchanged some functions by new code. There is a chance that things could
break but I would say that the chance is much higher to have a better
production run with 3.9.0 then with 3.8.0. I am using 3.9.0 on a production
system with around 3'000 mail users. The setup with DSPAM is using MySQL on
Linux and I do replicate the DSPAM data in MySQL and the DSPAM home/data
directory is on a network shared drive.

What from my viewpoint speaks for a usage of 3.9.0:
 - If things would break, then you can in no time switch back to 3.8.0 (since
the storage format/layout has NOT changed from 3.8.0 to 3.9.0).
 - The mailing list and the core DSPAM team is ultra responsive and should you
have issues, someone will quickly try to resolve them.

Uhhh... currently we have a issue hanging in the bug tracker regarding
compilation on Mac OS X. I personally would be very much interested in getting
your feedback regarding compilation on Mac OS X.
