My 2 cents on the whole RPM debate and the "proper" way to build things.
Instead of arguing about what the perfect RPM spec is here for Fedora/RHEL/CentOS/etc, why don't one (or both perhaps as co-maintainers) of your (Tonni/Steve) submit dspam to the Fedora project where it will get proper review and give the opportunity to make it even easier to get dspam installed on a wide user base? I would also volunteer to be a co-maintainer if it would be helpful, just keep in mind that I don't have a lot of time for this stuff. Cheers! Dave PS - Tonni, please try to keep your posts objective and stop bashing Steve and his hard work. Sure, he is focused on the Gentoo aspect of things, but saying things like "I can't honestly see what non-descriptive Gentoo patches can possibly do for (me)" is completely off base. Even though I am a Fedora/CentOS user myself, it is quite clear to me that Steve's patches address problems which affect the entire user-base. Any issues which may arise from using code from CVS where a good number of his patches have been applied is simply an artifact of the fact that the code in CVS is under development and may have bugs!
