D-Star does not need a repeater.... You can use simplex and score as a digital mode...
You need to consider D-Star as a digital mode not D-Star mode. Afterall it is digital. So is Packet, so is PSK, amtor, rtyy etc... Not any mention that you can't use it that way. [ED - There is the D-STAR demo/education (for education points) that would benefit from demonstrating as many capabilities as possible such as the gateway system and then there is digital mode operation for points which, according to rules, must be simplex.]
