George, Thanks for your comments. I made a mistake when I sent the question I intended for Steve to the whole reflector. My apologies to all.
It does seem that some of the newer, cost-reduced network gear is sub-standard. Too bad the US FCC doesn't require immunity as well as emissions testing for electronic gear sold here. My friend knows the ham isn't to blame for shutting down his DSL interface. He just doesn't know what to ask the telco people to do. They're clueless, of course.
