Hi Mark. I haven't used a U82HT nor a radio that required the UT-118, but I did take a look at it after I read your note and it appears that it would give you full D-Star functionality. I don't have a handheld. I'm going to get one soon, but I have two of the IC-2820H mobile rigs. I use one at home and the other in my truck.
