I was just sitting in the library, thumbing through the October 2009 edition of QST Magazine and ran across Dan Smith, KK7DS on page 66 being the recipient of the 2009 ARRL Technical Innovation Award for his contributions to DSTAR including D-RATS and Chirp among other contributions. The article states "His open source code has benefited the Emergency Communications community in more efectively deploying D-STAR in public service work, and his receptivity to user suggestion s makes his programming work all the more effective."
