Almost. You just need to get Solaris Express - http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/solaris-express/get.jsp Solaris Express is the latest internal build of Solaris. Not supported, but released to let customers get the latest and greatest. Solaris Express is effectively 'Solaris 11'. Once you've got Solaris Express you can install Open Solaris as per the steps here - http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/ If you just want to have fun with Solaris and aren't hugely interested in the source code, you might as well just download and install Solaris Express. My Toshiba laptop works happily with Solaris Express, including wireless networking. Blastwave.org is a good source of Solaris packages. Their pkg-get tool is similar to apt-get and sorts out all your dependencies. I expect we'll see a number of full Open Solaris distros at a usable level in the next few months. Nexenta, http://www.gnusolaris.org/gswiki, installs fine under VMWare, but won't work reboot! Fair enough - it is still a pre-alpha.
