Have a look at qemu. It's fairly easy to use, has a kernel accelerator module 
for x86 on x86 or x86 
on x64 and runs quite well. I use win2k under it to run Autocad, so it's not 
that much of a slouch. 
Has userspace/tun networking and a host of other features.
