Regarding the caching of Windows Updates (and Office lately as well) I
really recommend implementing Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
I've implemented it in a few networks and it works like a charm. Your
favourite Domain Controller will just download all the necessary
updates once every sync and your clients will just get the updates
through BITS (background intelligent transfer service) just as they
would from the microsoft update website. You can customize a lot,
generate reports, ...
Bottom line more time for you, the system administrator to tend to
more important tasks like finding good torrents for your favourite
movie. Wow, did I say movie, I meant linux distro...
