Did you install your Samba with the GUI ? If so then FC5 has a very
simple straight forward and easy to use samba config module which you
can use. I helped a guy this weekend do his first samba install and
he did it with the GUI, he had Samba running in 2 hours, including
install. If you have installed the GUI then build the samba file,
then open up a terminal, start your favourite editor and edit the
/etc/samba/smb.conf and you can see what an smb file looks like. FC5
is does a very thorough job of explaining of whateverything does.
In my experience, (with SLES) anyway, is that 80% can be configured
from the GUI, but should you run into issues, then 9 times out of 10,
you have to return to the command line interface (CLI) to fix it.
If you post your smb.conf file, or tell us what shares you are trying
to achieve then we shall tell you what you need to add to get the
service up and running.
To ensure you have no syntax errors in your smb.conf file run testparm
after editing.
