If you use Linux, you must use a SMP kernel, and your appplications
can use both of your processors.
Or when you will run two applications together which have a lot of
processes, you are using this feature.
Anyway, sometimes you need pass some special parameters to your
application, for example when you want to compile something, use
'-j2' to your 'make' command.
Also it doesn't make any problem and uncompatibility since 64bits
CPUs can make.
