I remember from the dark ages that several of these dynamic DNS services
even work when the machine that sets it sits behind a NAT (meaning is
not the one with the public IP). DynDNS was one of them - I believe.

DynDNS is also a pretty much open protocol, you should be able to get a
sniffer between your box and your modem to see what's going on.
