Coz every time I want to save and quit in notepad I automatically type :wq and nothing happens. That and loads of little 'i' and 'a' characters interspersed through the text. Same comment goes for gedit. If someone could teach them modality then we'd be cooking! Of course the source to notepad is a closely guarded secret not unlike the Colonels 11 herbs and spices, so the chances are slim. Could always grab the source from the WINE tree and try it with that, but then we'd just be creating another version of gvim, and you all know how I feel about re-inventing the wheel.
