Coz every time I want to save and quit in notepad I automatically type :wq and 
nothing happens. That 
and loads of little 'i' and 'a' characters interspersed through the text. Same 
comment goes for gedit.

If someone could teach them modality then we'd be cooking! Of course the source 
to notepad is a 
closely guarded secret not unlike the Colonels 11 herbs and spices, so the 
chances are slim. Could 
always grab the source from the WINE tree and try it with that, but then we'd 
just be creating 
another version of gvim, and you all know how I feel about re-inventing the 
wheel.
