I googled for "open source legal" and found:
http://www.opensourcelegal.org/

Then I googled for "gpl violations" and found:
http://gpl-violations.org/

I haven't heard of opensourcelegal.org before, but I have heard of
gpl-violations.org. Something that might not be quite as easy to find
if you didn't know what you were looking for is:

Groklaw - http://www.groklaw.net/

Not as easy to find, but very high quality. Groklaw is pretty much
the center of the open source legal world. Point your friend there.
