There is no sensor on the dock to denote whether the top is on. The LCD will
not function, regardless of whether the top of the dock is on or off. Taking
the top off only lets you verify that it isn't on. As mentioned, (and as
verified by me...) the keyboard and mouse will work when docked, but the Duo
Docks disable the LCD screen when the machine is docked. Short of hacking
the motherboard of the dock, you will not be able to use the LCD.
