i am in the process of rebuilding some duos that i got over the past
few months from ebay and some friends, and i'm having a humdinger of
a time getting things to work smoothly. i'd love some help, oh wise
ones.

they are both 270c's upgraded w/ 280c motherboard. first one boots
up, but when i go to put something in the trash, it says that it
cannot be left in the trash, would i like to delete it immediately?
i know this is something very basic, but i can't remember what. i
initialized drive (os 8.0 drive setup), reinstalled OS 8.0 and 8.1
update, updating disk driver, and it still does the same thing.
weird. otherwise it is acting normal. (i really wanted to put 7.6.1
on but i have misplaced my CD.) the hard drive was from a 250, and it
did the same thing in that configuration too.

the second one won't boot up, and the hard drive used to, i know
that. when i plug in the AC, it gives me the normal start-up chime,
but then it does nothing. the little green light at the top right of
the screen housing is on, and if i press power again it goes out and
then back on immediately, or control-command-power and it goes out,
blinks, and then immediately comes back on, either way without giving
me startup chimes. no spinning hard drive, no warning chimes of
death or disorder, no nothing. tried attaching floppy w/ 7.6 disk
tools but nothing. no stinkin nothing. i tried resetting the power
manager, and then it just gives me the startup chimes but nothing
follows, and this is a new PRAM battery.

my wife is gonna give me a serious rousting here if i can't get these
things to fly better than our powerbook 165, which is supposed to be
retired after these shenanigans. a step up with a whole lot of
problems in the way.

thank you very much,

bob
