PINE is a mailreader used on UNIX systems (and there's PC Pine,
I know). Many use it if their
dialup is to a command-line shell. I'm using PINE right now, and it's
a perfectly good text-based mail program.

The original mail program used was called 'elm' for 'electronic mail'.
When the new program was written, it was called PINE, which (in one
of those examples of unixhead humor) stands for 'pine is not elm'.
heh heh.

I don't know of a Mac Pine.
