I did it last night to a 2300 just to prove a point to myself! Worked like
a charm!

Have had this type of behavior several times and in some cases due to errors
in boot
blocks created by problem prevented drive from showing up in formater
software, but
also prevented proper booting of machine with drive connected. Only solution
found
was to hook drive up to PC and format under DOS/Windows and then the Mac
formaters
"would see" drive and proper Mac format done. Appears the DOS/Window format
routines
are more forgiving with respect to boot block problems. Also some Mac
formaters will
see and format "damaged" drives that others will not and varies as to which
one
depending on problem - so try all you have.
