Go to the MCE website for all the options: http://www.powerbook1.com

1. Call them and make sure Kevin can do the fuse repair. If not
contact Paul Vail, http://home.att.net/~afterhoursconsulting/ ,
or DT&T, http://www.dttservice.com/services.html

If yes...
2. Make sure you 2400 has 80MB RAM or you're probably wasting the
upgrade money.
3. Send it in and have them do these upgrades:
        - Fuse Repair Cost?
        - CardBus Enable @ $99 -
                http://store.powerbook1.com/mcecarupser.html
        - New HD, $200 for a 10GB up to $500 for a 30GB...the 10GB
should hold you.
                http://store.powerbook1.com/harddrives.html
        - put the old drive in a Firewall external enclosure @ $140
                http://store.powerbook1.com/mcedatxtremp1.html
-HD Install labor...probably included with CardBus upgrade...Ask.
4. For around $550-600 you have what you were looking for.
5. If you really plan on keeping it for 2-3 years, I'd order a PRAM
battery from http://members.aol.com/dnmonk/powerbooks/pram2400.html
and send it with your 2400c and have Kevin install it at the same
time you do all this other stuff. I'd also start shopping for a
spare external battery for the long haul, appx. $100-250.

Basically, once you decide to have the repair done, you are paying to
open up the 2400c, which is the hard part....so the HD, CardBus stuff
needs to be done now.

Now....before you send it off...go price an iBook for your son. ;-)
