If you're comfortable with opening your 2400 case, you can improve the cpu contact with the aluminum heatsink pad on the case with a small piece of tightly folded aluminum foil. Has worked for me and others and dropped the temp about 20 degrees.
Other tricks are to keep the PC card doors open as well as the back door of the 2400. Raising the back with a pencil works for extra ventilation also. What helped mine was to place it on an aluminum tray I had that raised it up a half inch and helped draw off some of the heat.
To that end, since I don't have my 2400 anymore and the it won't work for my iBook, I have two aluminum trays that were originally used in a dental autoclave. It is preforated, fits the 2400 dimensions perfectly, raises it about 1/3 inch and helps keeps the 2400 nice and cool. $3 plus shipping. jpeg available, reply off list. . .
