I've have two Dell Latitude's provided by my employer (I have installed
Linux). They are terrible. I wouldn't recomend Dell hardware to an
enemy. I think the Inspiron and iBook are *very* different machines.
I can't imagine how anyone would be trying to choose between them. Is
the iBook supposed to be an entry-level computer, or ultra-portable
multi-media? If it were entry-level, then why ethernet, dual-usb, or
firewire? I think of an entry-level computer as, well, a $500 desktop.
If the iBook is a multi-media machine, then we should compare to some of
Sony's offerings, for example. The SR series weighs 2.9 lbs(!), has
built-in USB, Firewire, 1024x768, 56k, Memory Stick *and* a PC card slot
for my CDPD modem! It's *much* smaller than the iBook. It costs $2000
and can run Linux... For me, the ability to use a celular (CDPD) modem
is a must. I can't see spending $2k on an iBook and *still* having to
carry something like a Dell just to use the CDPD modem.
