he thought it worked fine, no icons at all and yes i hear a very short, light, buzz
then the mac intro sound/music starts then screen goes white right away

It would help to know what PowerBook you have. Also did the roommate give
this to you because it wouldn't work? Regarding the blank white screen, do
you see a blinking floppy icon with a "?" in the center? Do you hear any
drive activity when you hit the power button?
