Isn't System 7.5.x available on Apple's website somewhere?  That should
work.  What is the desktop Mac you've got available?  Did it come with a
system floppy?  As long as it's an OS 7.5.x or OS 7.6.x floppy, it should
work.

Hmmm...  Culprits at this point would look like: corrupt desktop database; a
bad font(?); one of the Finder's preference files maybe corrupted.

I forget what the key combo is to force the Duo into SCSI disk mode.
