Also, I have 2 Apple full Minidocks. With one, the telephone connection
to the
internal modem works, on the other I get "the modem cannot detect a dial
tone". Has
anyone been inside a Apple minidock (there are 3 torx screws on the
bottom). Is the
telephone connection fused in the minidock? The telephone plug looks OK
(the 4 gold
wire contacts seem in place and not corroded). The large plug that
connects to the
Duo's back looks clean with no corrosion or apparent damage. I'm
looking for
suggestions to fix this problem.

There is a modem interface card inside the Apple Minidock.

I have had occasion to replace it on my Apple minidock

I used the modem interface card from my full-size Apple Duo Dock as the
replacement.

I don't know where you would find a minidock modem interface card but if
you do it's not too difficult to replace it.

Here's what i remember of what i did to replace the Modem Interface
Card.

1) with all connectors removed from the minidock, remove the torx screws
at the bottom of the minidock.

2) separate the top plastic from the bottom/back plastic and minidock
assembly. You will now see the modem interface card along with rest of
the minidock assembly resting in the bottom/back plastic.

please make sure you are properly grounded or make sure you do not touch
any circuitry while performing the next steps.

3) If there is a screw(s) holding down the modem interface card, remove
it (them).

4) I believe there are torx screws on each side of the pds connector. I
believe i loosened the torx screw to the right (if you are facing the
front of the minidock) of the pds connector. This allowed me to
slightly pry up the minidock assembly slide the modem interface card to
the right and therefore off the connector to the main minidock
assembly. (I may have had to loosen the torx screw to the left of the
pds connector also in order to get the modem interface card off the main
minidock assembly but i just don't remember.)

Install your replacement and put back together.

Hope this helps,

good luck,

stephen kenda
