I have a 280c that's standing on its graveyard. The external Duo IO port is blown (won't work with SCSI minodock, floppy dock, or DuoDock Plus), won't run off battery (common problem with all Duos with bent frame) and it's serial port gets flaky if I try to communicate with anything above 9600 bps.
So it's going to be decommisioned as a laptop but I wanted to give it one use before it becomes spare part fodder (1 keyboard still works, 1 LCD still works, 1 20MB still works, and 1 80MB HD still works plus 1 flaky 280c mobo) and I need to know if there's a way to hack the Duo 280c or just the LCD display itself to accept standard VGA? The (silly) idea is I have an old Commodore PET whose internal blew out when I tried to power it up the firwst time in 15 years so I gutted it and I plan to put in more modern computer stuff (like a PowerPC 7300/200 or a spare Celeron 733 PC) and finding an 7-9" VGA CRT is a mission: impossible. (Only found one source of small VGA but it's mono only :p) and since the 280c's screen is about the right size I'm hoping I could use it somehow. Any idea or suggestions? Don't be afraid to use difficult technical terms if needed. Thanks. ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
