Maybe I missed something, but is there any reason we are omitting the
serial-port Ethernet adapters?

If you don't mind classic networking (not OT), there is always the Farallon
EtherWave PB Adapter (my personal favorite and what I use on my 230) or the
DaynaPORT E/Z.
