Actually when looking at the back, it's the left side.  If you see a phone
jack, you have an American version (possibly Japanese too) and if you see
mini DIN 8 pin, you have the european modem that requires a dongle.  The
right side is a plain serial port (with the phone/printer icon on the leg
cap)

And to correct a minor misconception about Duo Dock (original, II, and Plus)
and the built in modem.  Many auctions I see on eBay seems to claim the
built in modem can be used with any Duo.  This is not true, the modem port
is merely a pass through port.  You will still need to have a modem
installed in the Duo to use the modem port on the Duo Dock.  I have visually
inspected the Duo Dock mainboard and convirmed that all but 3 pins from the
modem add on card goes right to the modem card on the Duo (through the Duo
PDS connector) and when you don't have a modem installed, that modem on the
Dock just doesn't do anything at all.
