Just to update:

I checked it out closely last night, running the Duo for several hours.
The screen shrinking did set in, but didn't get very far in. It appeared
that the bottom corners might be "creeping" slightly faster than the top
corners, but if so it was only a very slight difference- it was more or
less uniform. No part of the top half of the Duo became hot (or even
slightly warm) to the touch at any time.

I wonder if replacing the entire top half (LCD and casing) would
eliminate this, or if it's caused by something else? It's one of the
strangest things I've seen in many years of working with laptops!

However, after using
it for 30-45 minutes, the corners of the screen begin to turn black. The
longer I use it, the more the black corners "creep" toward the center of
the screen- in effect, shrinking the usable part of the screen.

Is the display getting warm/hot to the touch? All 4 corners coming in
at the
same rate? The display tube in across the top, IIRC. Shouldn't be
getting
that warm. Floating ground on the display side? Could be a lot of
things...but the display should NOT be getting hot.
