One further thing. I don't have any 2400 parts.

Most of these cards have to be removed before shutting down or putting the 'book to sleep and have to be inserted either after fully booted or at a certain time during boot.
4.) If I stick any of the aforementioned Cardbus cards into a non-Cardbus 2400c, what will the result be?
Nothing. Nothing bad anyway.
Remember that the PCMCIA designed the 16bit PC Card interface for x86 machines, based on the 16bit AT ISA bus. The newer 32bit CardBus specification is based on the 32bit PCI bus, again originally designed for the x86 platform, mainly by Intel. Both PC Card and CardBus (and PCI) are "little endian" while the Mac is "big endian". Data transfers between the Mac and those busses from the PC parts bin must go through a "byte flipper" to re-order the data so it will be properly understood on both the Mac and the peripheral sides. Of course that's built into the Mac hardware and operates "invisibly" to the user.

To answer question one, the adhesive vinyls most recommended to me by other modders are those found at various hobby shops. If you have a model R/C shop nearby, I would start there, as they carry such...an auto hobby shop would also be likely to carry such.
The hobby shops also bring me to an answer for question two: steer clear of Krylon. Not that it's a bad paint; there are just better choices, the best of which is Pactra, a polycarbonate-based paint. You definitely want to sand the surface of your 2400's casing down first. After that, lay down a thin layer of paint, allow it to dry, sand it, then add a second thin layer. You may even want a third layer. Remember to keep the layers as thin as possible, which is to say, not so thin that you rub through them in sanding, but thin sanded layers will result in a cleaner, glossier, more resilient finish. I believe the best grit for such a purpose is 600? It's been a while since I've done this (I did this last with my S900 Tower), so feel free to correct me, folks, if I'm off on this.
Trying to make cardbus cards work in an unmodded 2400 is a no-go. VERY bad idea, especially considering the cardbus hack is as simple as it is. If you are willing to take your Comet apart to paint it, you may as well enable it for cardbus cards.

Try your local Auto Paint Store for the 3M film.
2.) Has anyone tried to use Krylon Fusion paint on their 2400c?
I have not painted a complete PowerBook, but as a test I recently revived
and "Recolored" an Apple Adjustable Keyboard and an ADB Mouse II using the
Fusion Paint (Spring Grass color) just to see how durable it would be.
I have been using the keyboard and mouse now for several weeks without any
signs of wear and it appears to be quite resistant to scratching.
No sanding was required just a good cleaning to insure that there would be
no dropouts or fisheye's in the finish.
I also did a coverage test on a small piece of a Duo and found that three
light coats of paint was sufficient to cover the grey plastic. Using a
lighter color of paint may of course require more coats.
A Picture of the keyboard is

the mouse yet.

Heh....you should see my bro-in-law's Sony! Try some of the pro auto
graphics guys....3M does not sell their high end products to the GP, as they can be a
bear to work with. The auto graphics guys use the 3M tapes and you can
probably get roll ends for free. The vinyl comes in rolls up to 4' wide....you
should see some of the custom bikes and cars he's done. Tape is VERY strong and
resists damage rather well. Check with whichever local auto dealer who has
the most tricked out graphics, and see if you can find their graphics guy. I
helped a guy stripe his airplane with that tape....use pure alcohol to wipe down
the surface (a very fine sandpapering will also allow good bonding) and make
sure you've got it in the right spot!
