Sounds like an OpenFirmware problem…does any one out here know what can be done?

Hey your little 2400 is worth good money.

That didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

BUT, I think I had misdiagnosed the problem. It seems
the computer IS booting up, but that the display isn't
working. I've set the computer to give me witty error
messages in the "O.K. Computer" voice (e.g. "Get back
to work, you lazy bastard") and when I accidentally
pulled out the power cord after it had attempted to
boot up, the computer gave me one of those error
messages. That means it's got to be starting up,
right?

So, does this mean it's a display problem? The screen
is backlit but all grey. Is that what happens when
they break?

And I'll definitely give you the computer if I can't
fix it. Do you live in NYC, by any chance? If not,
I'll have to ask you to cover the shipping. The
battery has over an hour of charge left, so that alone
might make it worth your while.

Nope, no value, give it away. To me. :-)

But seriously, try holding down command-option-p-r
immediately after
you turn the machine on. Keep holding them until
after you hear the
speaker chime for the second time.

I have a 2400c that I just tried to boot up for
the

first time in almost a year. As soon as I plugged
it
in (i.e. before I hit the on/off button) it
started up
- screen lit up, hard disk whirring, etc - but it
didn't boot. The computer kept whirring away, but
nothing else happened except that it made a beep
noise
by itself at one point and then (after I hit a few
random buttons with no response) would beep if I
hit
buttons.

I've turned it off and on several times, and the
same
thing keeps happening - it's whirring and there's
a
lit-up-but-still-grey screen. I tried holding down
the
SHIFT key while starting it (to turn the
extensions
off) because it's the one trick I know - but it
didn't
work this time.

Any further suggestions?

If nothing works, I'll probably give this thing
away
(or sell it if I can) - so if anyone's interested
let
me know.

Thanks for any help,
Iman
