Fellow Duolisters,

Hacking hardware in and of itself can be really, really enjoyable. I
love looking at the japanese pages showing the hacks that have been
done to the 2400. They kick butt! I want one. I laud the folks that
are actually going to try dropping a 300mhz cpu in a duo. (Its the
classic tinkerer tradition, like putting a porsche engine in a
beetle!) Go for it folks: take pictures, document the process for
posterity.

There is a great website with some mac-hacks, Apple ][ hacks,
lego-macs, Apple prototypes, historic clones (][, & Mac) etc at
<http://www.applefritter.com> take a look. (Full Disclosure: I host
the site on one of my servers, an orphaned apple prototype machine.)
My favorite is the Mac in a vintage 1940's wooden Zenith radio case.
Don't miss it. If you know of any similar Hackintoshes,
Frankintoshes, etc let the site owner, Tom Owad know so it may be
included.

Jeremy Wood's original rant was just that: a rant. Like any good
conversation, no mailing list could exist without the occasional
rant. When I read it I did so with the assumption that his tongue was
planted firmly in his cheek (a good stance to take with email
anyway.) At the core though was a valid question: Why hack "obsolete"
hardware to make it more "modern" when it is probably not justifiable
costwise since it would be easier, less risky, etc to just buy a new
machine? They'll never be a satisfactory answer to that one other
than:

To some such an attempt seems silly, to others it sounds like fun.

It boils down to a basic difference in outlook.

As for some interpreting his post as rude, offensive, whatever ON
LIST... leave that to the list mom (yeah, he's on vacation, but that
doesn't give us all the license to act on his behalf!) I manage a big
list myself (mac-mgrs, many of you are on it too) and nothing chaps
my hide more than folks publicly trying to do my job for me. Nothing
kills a list faster than off-topic noise and nettiqutte squabbles.
This is Eric's list, let Eric do the mothering.
