Here is some information.

>From looking at the PowerPC pages and Apple Tech info, some answers to some
questions posted earlier:

The 2300c uses the 603e chip, not the 603.

The 603e comes in 240 CQFP and 255 CBGA packages at 100-200 MHz.

The 603e 200-300 MHz comes in the 255 CBGA package only, as does the
200-300 MHz 740.

The 750 only comes in the 360 CBGA package.

The bus dividers for the 100 MHz 603e are x1.5, x2, x2.5, x3, x3.5, x4.

The bus dividers for the 166-300 MHx 603e are x2, x2.5, x3, x3.5, x4, x4.5,
x5, x5.5, x6.

Typical/maximum power consumption for 133, 200 and 300 MHz 603e chips are
4.2W/5.3W, 4.0W/5.0W, 4.0W/6.0W

The 100-133 MHz chip is listed as requiring 3.3V, while the 166-300 MHz
chips are listed as requiring 3.3 V i/o and 2.5 V int, whatever that means.

My conclusions:

The increase in power consumption is probably negligible at the recommended
power supply voltages.

If the CQFP package is used, as a previous poster mentioned, the highest
"pin-compatible chip" would be 200 MHz.

2.5 volts is required or desirable.

If the bus speed is 33.33 MHz, then usable chip speeds without a bus
speedup would be 133 MHz, 166, or 200 MHz.
