If it makes sounds it is not dead... Have you tried resetting the power 
manager? (Unplug, take the battery out, keep the reset button -the one at 
the back of the machine- pressed for some 40 secs, connect to the power 
supply and try to boot with the battery unmounted) If this does the 
trick, you should also check on your battery, you might need a new one.
