Skip,

My internal modem (GV) has behaved oddly since my upgrade to 8.6, too.
I've simply resorted to PRAM resets (Techtool, link available on my
website to micromat) for fixing the modem assignments, 'though yours may
forever favor the "default" setting you state. A PRAM reset should do
your sound right, too. And it's time to abandon Quickbooks (Intuit
abandoned us years ago). If you are a consultant, email me off list as I
have a sw package for you. If you just want to do accounting, check out
Sapphire -- an Aussie package. E me if you want the URL, 'though
Sherlock should find it.
